SR on RESMSiGNUM™ RESM angle encoder offers accuracy, resolution, and repeatability at high speed and high temperature. It also offers ultra-low cyclic error and the IN-TRAC™ optical reference mark. The RESM angle encoder offers performance to suit the most demanding precision applications. SiGNUM™ is also available as a linear encoder.

SR readhead and Si interface features and benefits

Si-FN for FANUC serial interfaceThe system comprises the SR readhead, Si interface and RESM 20 µm ring.

  • Dynamic signal control ensures cyclic error of ±30 nm, offering 'fine pitch' encoder performance
  • Capable of operation over 4,500 rev/min and up to 85 °C
  • Excellent signal stability in conditions unsuitable for most open, optical encoders
  • IP64 'recoverable readhead' offers "wipe clean" recovery from coolant splashes or floods
  • Si interface offers industry standard analogue and digital outputs
  • The FANUC serial compatible interface (Si-FN) offers FANUC serial communications direct from the interface for higher performance and easier connectivity (the Si-FN is compatible only with Ø52 mm, Ø104 mm, Ø209 mm and Ø417 mm rings)
  • User selectable AGC maintains 1 Vpp analogue signal amplitude
  • Readhead and interface LEDs for optimum set-up and system diagnosis
  • High flex UL approved cable – up to 10 m between readhead and interface
  • Optional IP68 in-line connector available

RESM ring features and benefits

RESM montageThe RESM ring is a one-piece stainless steel ring with 20 µm scale marked directly on the periphery, which features the IN-TRAC™ auto-phase optical reference mark. The low profile RESM is available in a wide range of sizes (Ø52 mm to Ø550 mm) and line counts, all of which feature a large internal diameter for flexible integration.

  • IN-TRAC™ auto-phase optical reference mark, bi-directionally repeatable at operational speeds over 4,500 rev/min (Ø52 mm) and up to 85°C
  • A wide range of diameters and line counts provide compatibility with industry standard controllers (Ø52 mm to Ø550 mm with line counts from 8,192 to 86,400)
  • Patented taper mount minimizes installation errors and simplifies integration
  • Graduation accuracy to ±0.5 arc second and system repeatability to 0.02 arc second (20 nm Si interface with a Ø413 mm ring)
  • 10 mm x 10 mm small cross section ring
  • Low mass, low inertia design enhances system accuracy and dynamic performance
  • One piece stainless steel ring withstands vibration, mechanical and thermal shock, and thermal overload
  • For even higher acceleration and deceleration, and faster settling times, extra-low inertia 'B' section rings are available
  • FANUC serial Si-FN interface compatible with Ø52 mm, Ø104 mm, Ø209 mm and Ø417 mm rings
  • For partial arc applications, customer positioned, dual optical limits are available

SiGNUM™ software

Multilingual SiGNUM™ softwareSiGNUM™ software is PC based and provides comprehensive calibration, set-up optimisation and real-time diagnostics to simplify installation and system maintenance. The Si interface is connected to the PC via a mini USB connector.

  • 'Real time', remote monitoring of signal level and system performance, including signal strength meter, Lissajous plot and IRED feedback meter (AGC drive), to assist with system optimisation
  • Pitch adjustment indicator enables fine adjustment of the readhead pitch
  • Quick and simple remote calibration of the reference mark and incremental signals
  • Remote monitoring of system performance via USB during real-time closed-loop operation
  • System alerts warn the user of conditions that are less than optimum (warning function) and of any errors that occur (alarm function)
  • Technical 'info' guide provides contextual help and a detailed explanation of system functions and fault-finding
  • System configuration page displays Si interface configuration detailing resolution, clock frequency, etc
  • DRO functionality available with FANUC serial Si-FN interface
  • Multilingual user interface allows the user to select from English, German, Italian and Japanese
